He has a future. There are certain wrestlers who reach the top level of the industry and become legends. It can be even more impressive if someone becomes a legend in their own time, making them even more valuable. A promotion will often want to try to keep someone like that under contract for as long as possible and now AEW is doing just that with perhaps its most famous star.
According to Variety, Chris Jericho has signed a new three year contract with AEW, which will keep him in the company until December 2025. In addition to wrestling, the new deal comes with additional duties for Jericho, who will become a producer, an advisor to creative as well as a mentor to younger wrestlers. Jericho has been with AEW since the beginning and is the current Ring Of Honor World Champion.
Opinion: Keeping Jericho around is the right thing for AEW as he is the biggest star the company has ever had. I’m curious to see what he does in AEW, but the idea of Jericho as a creative consultant is something that could go in a few different ways. What matters is that Jericho is sticking around though, and AEW has taken care of one of the most important things they need to do.
