You have to start somewhere. We are coming up on AEW’s Double Or Nothing and that means things are starting to get interesting. The show is one of the four AEW pay per views of the year and that means the card is going to contain some very important matches. However, AEW had not actually set anything up for the show coming into this week. That is no longer the case though.
The first match for AEW Double Or Nothing was announced during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will be defending the title against Britt Baker, who has been vying for a title shot in recent weeks. Baker has also worked her way up the rankings since her loss to Thunder Rosa in March. Shida has held the title since Double Or Nothing 2020.
Opinion: This is one of those matches that was all but set up a few weeks ago and now the match is ready to go. That is the kind of thing that can make for a very fast build towards the pay per view, which is what AEW is going to need in a situation like this. Baker has been on a roll as of late and it makes all the sense in the world for her to get the title shot and probably end Shida’s rather long reign. It is nice to see them going with the logical way and in theory, the ending should work out well.
What do you expect from the match? How has the build gone? Let us know in the comments below.
