He got there. Winning a championship can be a game changer for a wrestler’s career and it often leads to bigger and better things for them. One of the most important aspects though is how long they hold their title, as the longer a reign goes, the more important it seems. That is the case again, as a current title reign has reached a milestone unseen in multiple decades.

As of Saturday June 10, Gunther has held the WWE Intercontinental Title for one year. Gunther is the fifth man to accomplish this feat, joining Pedro Morales, Randy Savage, the Honky Tonk Man and Don Muraco. This is the first time that such a feat has been accomplished since the Honky Tonk Man’s record 454 day reign from 1987-88. Gunther would break the record for longest title reign in history if he holds the championship until September 8.

Opinion: That really is one of those things that is almost hard to fathom but Gunther managed to make it work. I would almost be stunned if he does not break the all time record at this point, as he has less than three months to go and is as dominant as ever. What matters is Gunther has elevated the title, which is something WWE has been trying to do for a very long time now.
