You might have heard of this guy. Last week saw the Cruiserweight Title and “205 Live” as a whole being turned on its head due to Champion Enzo Amore being stripped of the title and released. That meant something needed to change and such changes were promised in the form of a General Manager being announced for the show.

Tonight on “205 Live”, Daniel Bryan introduced Drake Maverick as the new General Manager. Maverick is better known as former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Rockstar Spud, who signed with the company late last year. Maverick’s first act was to announce a sixteen man tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion with the finals taking place at “Wrestlemania XXXIV”. The sixteen names for the tournament have not been announced.

Here’s the announcement from last week:

SmackDown LIVE GM Daniel Bryan addresses the state of WWE 205 Live: WWE 205 Live, Jan. 23, 2018

Opinion: This works as well as anything else and is a good use of someone with as much charisma as Maverick. He can wrestle later if necessary but for now, just let him be an on screen character. As for the tournament….it’s all going to depend on who is involved. If they can get some big names in there and maybe a few surprises with a big final, there’s some potential there. Just let the finals be a big deal and don’t treat it like a joke.
