Ronda Rousey has taken aim at WWE and she’s not holding back. More importantly, she’s also taking aim at the fans. While all of this is to be expected when a Superstar turns heel, this situation is a bit different. But why?

This is not just any ordinary heel. This is Ronda Rousey. The Baddest Woman on the Planet had a Hall of Fame pedigree long before she ever stepped into a WWE ring and she also had mainstream sports approval to go along with it. Rousey was the real deal before and she’s definitely the real deal now. But is all of this going too far?

Many WWE fans would probably say yes, mostly because of Rousey’s recent interview on her social media. She was asked about her promo from the March 4 edition of Monday Night Raw in which she turned on the WWE Universe. But according to Rousey, this was not a promo at all.

“It wasn’t a promo. They gave me other things to say, and I didn’t **** say it. It’s not a promo. It’s not an act. I’m not going out there and doing their **** act anymore. They can say it’s part of the act to save face to everyone else, but it’s not an act. I’m going out there and I’m doing whatever the **** I want. **** them. Everybody, WWE Universe included. I meant that I’m going to disrespect the sport they love so much. ‘Oh don’t break kayfabe, Ronda!’ Wrestling’s scripted. It’s made up. It’s not real. None of those **** can **** touch me. The end.”

*Warning: Not Safe For Work!!*

If these words had come from anyone else, that person would have been greeted with a rousing chorus of boos tempered with applause. Why? Because the point was effectively made and at the end of the day, no one can deny the passion behind it. But this came from Ronda Rousey and Ronda Rousey is an outsider.

Despite how many times she stepped up and had the match of the night in WWE and despite how many times she proved herself in the ring, Rousey was rejected by a great number of fans. Those same fans seemed to collectively decide that not only did she not deserve their praise, she also did not deserve their respect. Ronda transitioned from a highly intense combat sport and adapted to the pro wrestling business as quickly as Kurt Angle. But none of that mattered.

Ronda is not one of them. She can profess her love of the business all she wants, just as she can tear up when talking about her hero and advocate, Roddy Piper. But fans don’t care. Ronda is a prima donna who came in and was handed the world of WWE on a silver platter. She didn’t have to work for anything and she didn’t have to earn her spot. This is the narrative that’s been repeated by the WWE faithful over the past 15 months and it’s only gotten louder.

Watch Rousey attack Lynch on Raw!

But if fans could remove Ronda from the equation and replace her with Roman Reigns or John Cena, would they despise her controversial interview as much as they do? Or would they be happy that the company finally allowed her to shift her character and begin to evolve?

“I’m tired of just being here to entertain people. I’m not taking any more direction, or notes, or orders and every time I go out there I’m going to do whatever the h**l I want to do. They’re just going to have to keep filming and cashing the checks I’m bringing in. What else are they gonna do, not accept the money I’m making them?”

If those words had come out of Roman’s mouth, he would have been not only the hottest heel in the pro wrestling industry, he would also have become the most over babyface as well. The fans were begging for him to finally break free of the silliness that had plagued his character for so long. It reached a point when even his most ardent critics wanted him to change, if only to see him finally get a real shot on his own terms.

But because WWE gave this opportunity to Ronda, she’s suddenly being vilified for shooting on the business that gave her a second chance. The truth however is that when Rousey “attacked” Becky Lynch on Raw, The Man hesitated. Lynch fed for Ronda and took the beating. This is a sign that everything happening between the ropes with Ronda is still planned. If it’s still planned, then more than likely, so is everything else.

Watch Rousey go back after Raw went off the air!

Rousey is a pro of course and she’s never been accused of taking liberties with any of her opponents. But if Ronda were serious about being fed up and doing what she wants to do, then wouldn’t that also translate to the ring? Then there’s the fact that WWE has given her a tremendous amount of freedom when it comes to filming her actions backstage and even during Raw. Would the company really be okay with all of this if there wasn’t a plan beforehand?

The fact is Ronda sounds extremely real. But then again, she should. The Rock sounded real when he finally got the chance to turn on the crowd that had spent a year chanting “die Rocky, die.” The People’s Champ got his opportunity to vent and let out all of his frustrations, which in turn, made him a star.

Like The Rock, Rousey did everything in her power to fit in and to get over. Rousey is already a made woman of course and much higher on the food chain that Rocky was at the time of his transformation into The Great One. But the similarities are definitely there.

Rousey is saying everything that fans believe she’s wanted to say since 2018. She’s playing her part and she’s doing it better than she’s ever done before. The WWE faithful wants to hate her and the company is no longer going to fight them on it.

Whether or not WWE should be going so hard in the “real world versus fake pro wrestling” direction is up for debate. But when it comes to Ronda Rousey, The Baddest Woman on the Planet is only doing what her mentor, Roddy Piper, always did. The fans though they had the answer, but she’s changing the question.
