Over the last decade, wrestling as an art form has evolved significantly. The superstars are now competing at a much more physical and mentally challenging rate than those that came before them. Somehow though, the old mentality still not only exists but persists in the wrestling domain.

Mae Young Classic Parade of Champions: July 13, 2017

The video above showcases the thirty two competitors involved in the first ever ‘Mae Young Classic.’ We have covered the participants being announced over the past month or so and mentioned who would be commentating the event, but nobody was given the entire list, so there are many surprise entrants. We highly recommend watching the parade and letting us know who you believe will take the victory in the tournament.

It is being reported by WrestlingInc and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that several WWE officials were sexist to many of the participants in the ‘Mae Young Classic’ tournament.

The WWE officials unhappy were reportedly those with the old mentality that all women in WWE have to be hot and sexy. These officials reportedly said that many of the women in the tournament don’t fit the WWE mold, which is to them someone that is good looking.

Please do bear in mind that the opinions and mentality of some don’t define the entire WWE brand or the opinions of everyone. There are people like Triple H who has encouraged the women’s revolution and been a key figure in gathering participants for the tournament.

It is unknown if the talent competing in the tournament were told about the opinions of those who didn’t agree with certain women being in the tournament, but we at Wrestling Rumors believe that if this were the case, the women in the tournament will ultimately speak out against this. We will continue to keep you updated as the situation develops.

Editor’s Note:

This was not something I expected to hear coming out of the ‘Mae Young Classic.’ Just as we think the doors are closing on the old-school way of thinking, something new and insane like this comes back into view and it reminds us that sexism still exists within the company. That needs to be weeded out.
