As fans have been told for years, injuries can happen anywhere, at any time. One moment a superstar can be completely healthy and the next they can be on the sidelines watching their peers achieve success while they are left training rigorously for an in-ring return.

WrestlingInc is reporting the match between NXT Womens Champion Asuka and Ruby Riot at the Download Festival had to be stopped as Riot was busted open badly during the match.

Riot was busted open after she took a bump into a set of steel stairs. She would later during the day confirm via a Facebook Live chat with NXT Correspondent Kayla Braxton that she received five stitches due to the injury sustained.

Riot uses to explain that Asuka is showing a new side of herself and with her intention on taking the title from Asuka, Riot explains that this will help her in the future against Asuka in taking advantage.

From the video above it seems that Riot is still able to compete. In addition, she retweeted a status from the WWE NXT Twitter about the second day of the Download Festival, so it doesn’t appear that she will need time off. What a relief.

Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross are set to meet Asuka next week on NXT in a rematch from ‘TakeOver: Chicago‘ but with the added stipulation that the match will be Elimination, meaning the first pinfall doesn’t result in the victory.

Editor’s Note:

I’m so glad to hear Riot won’t need any time off due to injury. She only recently debuted with NXT and is finding herself on the show. Having her injured right now isn’t in her best interest.
