Following WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino’s surprising, emotional death last week, we have an update courtesy of Ringside News on what led to his death.

It is being reported that Sammartino’s death was caused by the result of multiple organ failures due to pre-existing heart issues.

A lifelong illness:

Sammartino had a damaged heart ever since he was 12-years-old when he had suffered a rheumatic fever. Unfortunately, Sammartino wasn’t made aware of these issues until the later stages of his life.

Within the last few months of his life, Sammartino was in and out of the hospital suffering from Diverticulitis. The WWE Hall of Famer reportedly didn’t want people knowing about his condition and as such, it was kept a secret.

Given the condition throughout his life, it is believed that his heavy training added 15-20 years to his life, though he reached a point where his heart could no longer overcompensate for the damaged portion, leading to his tragic death.
