Backstage News on The Universal Championship Match at “Royal Rumble”

Following the result of the ‘Raw‘ main event, Dave Meltzer commented on the Wrestling Observer Radio what the plan for the ‘Royal Rumble’ Universal Championship match is.

As reported by WrestlingInc, the plan last night was for the winner between Kane and Braun Strowman would continue to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the ‘Royal Rumble’ pay-per-view.

That match unfortunately ended in a double count out. The commentators suggested that this meant neither of them got the shot, but fans on social media speculated it meant the opposite – that both of them get to face Lesnar.

Meltzer confirmed that the current plan for the ‘Royal Rumble’ in Philadelphia is a Triple Threat Kane vs. Strowman vs. Lesnar match.

There were several ideas pitched to Vince McMahon about who the opponent could be, but McMahon settled on the Triple Threat idea. Unless he changes his mind, this will indeed be taking place.

Lesnar and Paul Heyman are expected to be back on ‘Raw’ next week. Heyman will obviously make mention of the match this week. It is thought that this upcoming ‘Raw’ will confirm the PPV match.
