WWE Superstar Darren Young has made professional wrestling history and has become the first ever openly-gay performer during his tenure with World Wrestling Entertainment.

Young, real name Fred Rosser, was approached by TMZ on Wednesday, and asked about whether a gay wrestler could find success in WWE. That’s when Young said he himself is gay.

“Absolutely,” he said. “Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”

In an industry where testosterone has long been the stereotype, Young becomes one of the first to be open about his sexuality. WWE currently runs its “Be A Star” campaign, in which tolerance is applauded and preached.

Young has been part of WWE since May of 2009.
