WWE Films has been long-known for its series of highly successful movies, often taking home Academy Awards and receiving widespread acclaim from even the most self-serving movie critics (such as Leonard Maltin). And now, the fortunate WWE Universe will be able to experience the newest edition to the collection.

WWE officially announced Monday the release of “12 Rounds 3: Lockdown” starring Dean Ambrose. It issued a release on its website, part of which can be found below:

WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose makes his motion picture debut in WWE Studios’ “12 Rounds 3: Lockdown” presented by Lionsgate!

Ambrose plays Shaw, a detective that returns to active duty after the death of his partner. When he uncovers evidence linking his fellow officers to a murder, they frame him for a homicide he didn’t commit. Trapped in his own precinct, Shaw will do whatever it takes to expose the dirty cops and clear his name. With twelve rounds in the clip and one shot at redemption, nothing will stand in Shaw’s way in this action-packed thriller.

“12 Rounds 3: Lockdown” is in theaters and on-demand Sept. 11.

Many will recall, Ambrose was written off WWE television late last summer to film the movie, then known simply as “Lockdown.” This was when Seth Rollins put him through “cinderblocks.”

Thankfully, WWE Films withheld the secret that this was another “12 Rounds” film. Avid fans of the franchise will recall John Cena starring in the first edition back in 2009. There, it starred a marine looking to save his wife…or something along those lines.

The sequel, released not long after, starred Randy Orton in presumably the same role. If those films are any indication, it appears Ambrose will indeed follow in the footsteps of WWE greats and be in line for a significant push.

Editor’s Note

Well that was way more fun to write than it will be to probably watch the movie.
