Word going around the wrestling circuit is that the only reason news of WWE releasing Richie Steamboat got out is because former talent Chris Hero, also known as Kassius Ohno, claimed so in a recent shoot interview.

Steamboat, son of WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, has been out of action since last year after having back surgery and hasn’t been on NXT or any other WWE programming since. He was featured prominently in FCW, even winning the division’s championship at one point.

He had been in WWE developmental since 2009, but hadn’t appeared on NXT since November of 2012. Steamboat was in the Top 100 of PWI’s Top Wrestlers of 2012.
