Former WWE Champion John Cena made his return to the ring after missing two months of action on Sunday night to face Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship.

After several teases by the announcers of a cash-in by Money in the Bank holder Damien Sandow, Cena defeated Del Rio with the Attitude Adjustment to win the title. It is the first time he has held the title in nearly five years.

Sandow did not make an attempt at Cena following the bout.

Cena is now a 14-time world champion, including his runs as WWE Champion. He joins WWE Hall of Famer Edge as the second person to lose the WWE Championship and then win the World Heavyweight Championship in his very next match.
