Mauro Ranallo’s disappearance from SmackDown Live has been a topic of major speculation for several weeks, but it’s only been recently that the story has come together.

The announcer’s leave from WWE seems to have been the result of mental health issues, and a bullying attitude from JBL has been implicated as a primary factor. Mauro had become a fan-favorite voice on the CWC and continued that role on SmackDown, but it seems that there isn’t a happy ending for this story.

Mauro’s Twitter profile no longer lists WWE as his employer, and he’s deleted all his recent tweets thanking WWE fans for their support during his absence.

Of course, when Mauro didn’t make it to WrestleMania, the implications seemed clear. But still it’s disheartening.

Though the obvious story coming out of this will be that JBL is a bully who caused a mental health breakdown for someone suffering from depression, it’s important to note that we do not have the full story. Some part of that–or all of it–may be true, or there may be other factors at work.

Nonetheless, our hearts go out to Mauro in all this. While his WWE departure remains unconfirmed, the writing is on the wall, and we’re disappointed to see mental health issues playing such an unfortunate part in someone’s career.
