Former WWE star Ryback was quite public about his contract dispute. By the time his departure from the company became official no one was particularly surprised. While he’s had some matches on the independent circuit, he’s been unable to promote himself under the WWE-owned Ryback name.

To get around that detail, Ryan Allen Reeves has had his name changed to Ryback Allen Reeves, allowing him to promote himself using what is now his legal name. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, a judge approved the name change this week.

The Big Guy first announced the change on his podcast earlier this month, saying, “It was one thing that I did not own and I created and I used before my time with WWE. And it is something that is associated with my brand, and who I am, that I am very proud of.”

While Ryback might not be a favorite among hardcore wrestling fans, he had perennial popularity among kids and the more casual crowd. Promotion under his best-known moniker should help his post-WWE career.
