The WWE has issued a statement regarding the status of Mistico, the original Sin Cara. The statement was issued to PWInsider.com.

The statement reads,

“The original performer behind the Sin Cara mask remains under contract to WWE. WWE will continue to invest in the character and retain it as part of WWE programming.”

The status of Mistico came under question during the latest episode of “Monday Night Raw,” when Hunico wrestled under the Sin Cara mask and picked up a victory over Alberto Del Rio. Mistico, real name Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde, remains under contract with WWE, but reportedly that contract expires in January. The WWE has an option to renew his contract if they want, but as we previously reported, Mistico has expected his release for some time now.
