The “half-time” segment between John Cena and Brock Lesnar during “RAW” was Vince McMahon’s idea, at least according to PWInsider.com. McMahon reportedly planned the segment between the former and current WWE World Heavyweight Champion to take place during the “half-time” of the Sept. 15 “Monday Night Football” game to directly compete with the NFL’s flagship program.

During the Sept. 15 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” a hyped confrontation between Lesnar and Cena would take place on WWE programming when “Monday Night Football” went to half-time. This left the main event spot open during WWE programming, which led to Mark Henry’s “rally of America” segment closing out the show in what many considered to be a “terrible idea creatively.”

According to reports, the usage of Cena and Lesnar during “Monday Night Football’s” half-time segment was to try and pull viewers from the NFL to “RAW.” Cena, as well as the commentary team, consistently promoted that the confrontation would take place at “half-time,” which made many viewers initially believe he meant 9:30 p.m.ET, which is the half-way point between the opening and closing segments featured during “Monday Night Raw.”

However, it would be quickly obvious that WWE was waiting until “Monday Night Football” went to half-time before bringing out the company’s two biggest stars. This led to Mark Henry and Rusev being used in the main event, in a segment that fell flat for a lot of viewers.

McMahon has been deemed the creative mastermind behind John Cena’s current character, as he believes that Cena needs to be booked almost invincible since his loss to Lesnar at “SummerSlam” so that it seems he has a shot against the champion at “Night Of Champions.” This is why Cena got the upper hand on Lesnar during “RAW” and was the one “security” had to restrain.

Editor’s Note:
This just proves to me that McMahon’s finger is definitely no longer on the pulse of what the WWE Universe desires. Why are they not just writing good television developed around a great script? Why are they trying to compete with “Monday Night Football?” JUST PUT OUT A GREAT SHOW AND MORE PEOPLE WILL WATCH! LESS PEOPLE WILL WATCH WHEN EVERYONE SEES THE BULL CRAP YOU’RE PUTTING ON TV CURRENTLY!
