IGN.com has recently reported the latest on WWE 2K14’s gameplay changes and roster. Richard George published a first glance report on IGN.com Tuesday morning, revealing what has changed in the gameplay between THQ and Yukes’ WWE ’13 video game, and the upcoming 2K Sports and Yukes’ WWE 2K14.

In his article, George states that WWE 2K14’s developer Yukes will in fact be keeping the same game engine seen in WWE ’13. It will remain focused on the same light-and-heavy grapple system that was re-created for WWE ’12 by Yukes back in 2011.

There will be some modifications to the gameplay though, specifically to the reversal system. Reversals of most attacks will now transition into other attacks, which Yukes believes will speed up the action during gameplay and “significantly improve” the pacing of matches. Wrestlers themselves will now move faster and more fluid as well. The speed of your character as he or she runs at an opponent will also accelerate the longer they run.

The current confirmed roster only holds six combatants; “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, and Randy Savage. The Ultimate Warrior will be available as a free download when you pre-order the game in advance. George expects a full roster to be released prior to or around SummerSlam on August 18th.

Some of the most notable additions to this new installment in the WWE video game library are related to “OMG moments” and “catch finishers.” More “Catch Finishers” are being inserted into this game, with ten confirmed new ones, including the “toss up Superkick” from Shawn Michaels have been added. Finishers will also be able to be performed on and opponent as they are running to you or if they are in the air.

Environmental “OMG moments” have been expanded as well. Specific characters like John Cena and Ryback will be able to perform their finishers to multiple wrestlers at the same time, as in a 2-person Attitude Adjustment or Shell Shock.

George did explain that besides these few new additions, 2K Sports and Yukes have not released a lot of information regarding the game. Hopefully more information will be revealed as the release date for WWE 2K14 continues to get closer.

WWE 2K14 will be available in-stores on October 29th, and can be pre-ordered online here.
