According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lanny Poffo chose Hulk Hogan to induct the “Macho Man” Randy Savage into the WWE Hall of Fame. As previously reported, Savage will be the headliner for the 2015 class of the WWE Hall of Fame, and Hogan will have the honor of inducting him.

Poffo recently joined Bill Apter of 1Wrestling.com to discuss the matter. While many knew of Hogan and Savage’s real-life “sometimes love, sometimes hate” relationship, all questioned who selected Hogan to induct the “Macho Man” into the Hall of Fame on March 28.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Poffo made the selection. Meltzer writes,

“Lanny Poffo said he picked Hogan to induct Savage, saying that he believed, deep down, that they both loved each other, even if they didn’t get along a lot of the time. Savage no-showed what would have been his final career match in January 2005, where he was scheduled to win the NWA world heavyweight title from Jeff Jarrett on a TNA PPV show in Orlando, when Hogan came to the building to talk about a potential deal.

Aside from doing one spot in a six-man tag match a month earlier where he pinned Jarrett to set up the next main event, Savage hadn’t wrestled since 2000. His body had started breaking down from all the punishment from 27 years of wrestling.”

Savage will be the first posthumous “main event” inductee for the broadcasted ceremony that takes place one night before WrestleMania. The Hall of Fame’s first induction was the late André the Giant, who had passed away in 1993, the same year the Hall of Fame was created.

However, the ceremony was not broadcasted live on any network. Since the ceremony has aired on television, whether live or taped, many posthumous inductions have taken place, but Savage will be the first deceased inductee to likely be showcased at the end of the program.

Editor’s Note:
Well, that settles that. Poffo picked Hogan. He and Savage must have legitimately squashed all beefs before the “Macho Man” joined the Big Man upstairs.
