Former WWE Champion John Cena prepares to take time off for surgery after his loss to Daniel Bryan Sunday night at SummerSlam. The surgery will be to repair his injured elbow.

As we previously reported, WWE officials had been trying to keep the extent of Cena’s elbow injury quiet, as to not give away the likely ending to the SummerSlam main event. If many people knew that Cena would have to have surgery as soon as possible, then they would assume that he would certainly lose the WWE Championship.

Cena’s elbow is in terrible shape and was heavily taped and talked about by the commentators at SummerSlam. Cena will undergo surgery now, which means he will be taking a few months off (at least) to rehab his elbow. Most of the time Cena rushes through recovery to get back on TV, but sources say he may take his time this go around and rehab his body to 100% before he returns.
