F4Wonline.com is reporting that current WWE Champion John Cena may be taking time off after SummerSlam. Cena will be facing Daniel Bryan this Sunday night for WWE Championship at the WWE’s annual Summer PPV, but he will be doing so with a severely injured elbow.

WWE officials have been trying to keep the extent of Cena’s elbow injury quiet, as to not give away the likely ending to the match, which should see Bryan or Randy Orton as WWE Champion once the show goes off the air. Cena’s elbow is in terrible shape, so bad in fact that they have kept him out of the ring for over a week just to save anything it has left for SummerSlam. Cena will undergo surgery after the event, which means he will be taking a few months off (at least) to rehab his elbow.

When the lights go out on SummerSlam Sunday night, expect the championship to be on somebody else, and for Cena to have passed the torch off to one of his peers.
