A new report from F4Wonline.com‘s Dave Meltzer explains why Cesaro may be added to the United States Championship Match at WWE “Battleground” on July 19. US Champ John Cena is currently slated to only defend the Star-Spangled strap against former NXT Champion Kevin Owens at the event, but plans may have changed and Cesaro may be added to the bout, making it a Triple Threat Match.

As seen on “RAW” for the last two weeks in a row, Cesaro and Cena have had two of the greatest WWE matches so far in 2015 over the US title on television, with Owens waiting in the weeds for his shot at the gold come “Battleground.” Following the second Cesaro vs. Cena match during the July 6 edition of “RAW,” Cena himself, as well as others like WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, praised Cesaro, calling him a main eventer that needs to be let loose.

While initially Owens vs. Cena III for the United States Championship was set to be a singles bout, it may become a three-way dance if WWE officials feel the need to add Cesaro in as a fall guy.

Cena is heavily favored to lose the United States title to Owens at the event, which is why it’s believed Owens dropped the NXT Championship to Finn Bálor on July 4 at “Beast In The East” in Tokyo, Japan. Meltzer claims that WWE may add Cesaro for two reasons. One would be to add another great worker to the program and create a “big feel” to the bout, and the other would be so that Cena doesn’t get pinned to lose the US title, leading to Owens vs. Cena III on their own possibly at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23.

Meltzer writes,

“I’d really hope they could work Cesaro in, but the place he’d fit, which would be to make the U.S title match a three-way, isn’t for the best.

I suppose they could do it and use him to lose a fall to get the belt on Owens without beating Cena. The New York crowd is probably going to be behind Owens like crazy in that match.”

With only one week left before “Battleground,” if Cesaro is going to be added to the US title match, he’ll like be added during the “go-home” edition of “Monday Night Raw” on July 13, or not at all.

Editor’s Note:

Can you imagine that Triple Threat? If Cesaro’s added, you know Owens is pinning him, but IMAGINE what that match would look like! #Baller
