Triple H wins the WWE Championship for the first time: Raw, August 23, 1999

Even the COO had to start somewhere.

In honor of Triple H’s Birthday, WWE has posted a new video of “The Game” winning his first World Championship in the company. It happened during the August 23, 1999 episode of “Monday Night Raw.”

The main event of the show featured Triple H challenging Mankind for the title, with The Rock joining Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler on commentary. After interference from Shane McMahon and a chair shot to Mankind’s head, “The Cerebral Assassin” was able to score the victory and claim his first championship.

This would be the first of 14 WWE Championships in the illustrious career of Triple H.

Editor’s Note:

There is a reason that he is my favorite wrestler of all time. His ability to be one of the most entertaining babyfaces in the company, as well as one of the most sinister and cutthroat heels of all time, shows just how strong of a character he really is. Combine that with his outstanding athletic talent and you have a formula that is truly “that damn good!”
