It had been previously reported that Cody Rhodes, along with The Young Bucks, are beginning a new wrestling promotion known as All Elite Wrestling. They made the announcement on New Year’s night 2019.

Cody Rhodes took to Twitter to announce what his role with the company will be:

I feel so damn lucky. I believe that more than talent… more than chance… work ethic will guide me where I’d like to go.

To be Executive Vice President for our new venture, and to be flanked by Matt and Nick and a few familiar names sharing that position: this is my dream job.

I can’t think of a time when so many of wrestling’s top free agents all opted out of the road usually traveled and instead wanting to start something new. I am excited to see AEW into existence.

What’s old isn’t new – what’s new is new. Perception isn’t reality – reality is reality. Fans first.

You can see the video of the announcement of the promotion below:

“New Years Elite” - Being The Elite Ep. 132

Their first event will take place on Tuesday, January 8th at 5 pm EST in the parking lot of West Club at the TIAA Bank Field, which is the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Called “Double Or Nothing,” it should be noted that the event will be taking place in the same city that Smackdown Live is being held that night.

Editor’s Opinion:

I can only see this as being a great thing for the world of professional wrestling. With Impact continuing to struggle, this seems like a perfect time to break into the business and shake things up for all involved.
