Last night at SummerSlam, history was made as Charlotte Flair defeated both Becky Lynch and Carmella in a triple threat match, to capture her 7th championship as a member of the WWE main roster.
However, the story of this match was not Flair’s victory; rather it was Lynch’s apparent heel turn, when she unleashed a vicious attack on her former best friend after the match was over.
Lynch has said in the past that she wanted to be a heel and the WWE Universe in Brooklyn felt that this was a long time coming. They were fully supportive of her actions and were cheering loudly while the attack was going on.
When the cameras panned to Flair after the assault, she appeared to be in tears because of the betrayal of her best friend. However, the WWE Universe was booing like crazy because they wanted the Irish Lass Kicker to finally have her moment in the sun.
As this was happening, a thought entered my mind. We seem to have seen this story before, where the person who was on top of the mountain was being booed by the audience because that person was not the one that fans want as the face of WWE.
A person who has been “shoved down our throats” time and time again.
A person who won the Universal Championship last night at SummerSlam.
I’m talking of course, about Roman Reigns.
Let’s think about it: Flair has been on the main roster for just over 3 years, and she’s already won a WWE Championship 7 times. While she arguably had the feud of the year with Sasha Banks in 2016, they were playing hot potato with the title the entire time, which some may argue was a way for the company to pad her stats.
Now, ever since she debuted on the main roster in July of 2015, Charlotte Flair has been my favorite female performer in the company. I think her look is amazing, her athleticism is incredible, she is incredibly versatile in the ring, and her promo skills get better and better each time.
That being said, when the same person is on the top for a long time, people tend to get tired of it. So, now I pose the question to all of you:
Is Charlotte Flair The Female Version Of Roman Reigns?
