About one month ago, Mick Foley made his return to WWE programming and announced that the company would be introducing a new title. Called the 24/7 Championship, the title would be defended anytime, anywhere; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Immediately, many stars, who would normally not have had the opportunity to shine on WWE TV, began to chase each other down and attempt to get the pinfall that would award them the new prize.

Since its inception, the 24/7 Championship has been defended in remote locations, such as a golf course, on an airplane, and even at a wedding.

Showing shades of the Hardcore Championship of the Attitude Era, fans immediately became skeptical and thought that this would be a stupid and gimmicky title, that would be mishandled and booked in a terrible way.

But then, in perhaps a stroke of luck and/or genius, WWE decided to put the title on R-Truth. To say that his time with the title has been incredibly entertaining would be a vast understatement, and he has provided some of the most fun and worthwhile segments on the show as of late.

Which is why, in my opinion, the best thing about WWE right now is the 24/7 Championship.

Now, to be fair, a lot of this has to do with R-Truth. Once again, he has taken a gimmick that could have very easily been mishandled and poorly booked, and turned it into something worth seeing every week. The segments are always absolutely hilarious, and provide us with some of the most fun television that WWE produces on a weekly basis.

But, let’s take a look at this. What are superstars like Titus O’Neil, EC3, Cedric Alexander, Eric Young and others doing on WWE Programming right now? Absolutely nothing. The 24/7 Championship gives them an opportunity to be a part of something that could allow their careers to have a spark at any moment, and gives them at least some brief television time each week, until they have the opportunity to be in more serious matches.

Not only that, but the WWE Universe is beginning to dig this as well. As of the time of this column being written, the video of R-Truth winning back the 24/7 Championship at Drake Maverick’s wedding has over 4.5 million views.

The formula is simple: provide entertaining and hilarious television, that is unpredictable and wild, and people will buy in and get behind it. It’s really not that complicated.

With the rise of AEW and the seemingly low morale in WWE right now, having the 24/7 Championship be one of the best parts of your show might not necessarily be where the company wants to be. However, I will be very excited whenever this title is featured, as I know that it will be comedic gold, and will provide entertaining and fun-filled television.

And that is best for business.

P.S. – R-Truth deserves to have a world championship reign before his career is over, for being able to take any storyline that he is given and make it work. I’m just saying.
