Honor and tradition. Gunther has been the WWE Intercontinental Champion since June 10, 2022, when he defeated Ricochet to win the title. He has defeated everyone in his path since then and as a result, has made history within WWE.
According to various sources on Twitter, Gunther has now broken into the top 10 of longest-reigning Intercontinental Champions in WWE history. Furthermore, he is just over 200 days away from breaking the all time record. Also, as of this week, Gunther has had the longest Intercontinental Title reign of the last 18 years, surpassing Cody Rhodes’ 234-day reign from 2011.

Despite being the 2023 Men's #RoyalRumble Runner-Up, @Gunther_AUT does score a small victory over winner @CodyRhodes…

Gunther recently entered the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match at No. 1 and lasted until the very end of the match, when he was the last one eliminated by the winner, Cody Rhodes.
Editor’s Opinion:
This doesn’t surprise me, as everything that he has done since coming to the main roster has been pure gold. If you combine this accolade with his performance at the Royal Rumble, Gunther has put himself in a place where he will be in the main event picture sooner rather than later. He has established himself as one of the top guys in WWE for years to come!
