It had been previously reported that ticket sales for the Ring of Honor/New Japan supershow at Madison Square Garden sold over 12,000 tickets during the pre-sale a couple of weekends ago.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletterthe show fully sold out in less than 19 minutes, once tickets were made available to the public on August 10.

However, the significance of this is far behind this feat; while ROH officials would not release an exact gate number, it was confirmed to be well in excess of $1 million. This makes this event the largest gate for a non-WWE pro wrestling gate, not only in the United States, but almost anywhere in the world.

ROH/NJPW Present “G1 Supercard” – LIVE FROM MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!

This is interesting for a number of reasons. With this show taking place on April 6, 2019. it means that WrestleMania will be taking place in the same city, the next day, at MetLife Stadium. If the company continues their current trend of bringing in the top independent talent from around to the NXT brand, this could lead to some very interesting cross-promotional interactions between superstars.

Dave Meltzer believes that “the next nine months will be the most fascinating and most pivotal time in this industry in more than 15 years.”

Editor’s Opinion:

While I don’t think that anything will happen cross-promotionally between the two, it certainly is an interesting idea. If there was time to have a major debut at WrestleMania 35, this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
