It had been previously reported that longtime composer of WWE theme songs, Jim Johnston, has been released by the company.

According to the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, many people in the company saw it coming and weren’t surprised. He apparently wanted to stay with WWE, but had a very high-paying contract. In addition, WWE has been relying more on CFO$ to produce their themes since 2012.

You can see a sample of Johnston’s work below:

Breaking down D-Generation X’s entrance music: WWE Behind the Theme

Johnston had worked for the company for over 32 years and had composed legendary themes for The Undertaker, D-Generation X, The Rock and many more.

Editor’s Opinion:

I have not had much of an opportunity to comment on this, but as a person whose main job is teaching music, I have to say that I’m not surprised. Johnston has composed some of the most iconic music in the history of WWE, and his work will live on forever. However, the CFO$ bring a new and energetic vibe to the company, and they have found a way to create some incredible themes that connect with today’s audience.
