On Smackdown Live this past week, Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka to win the blue brand’s Women’s Championship. This makes her an 8-time champion within WWE.

But what was the reasoning behind this sudden title change?

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer RadioDave Meltzer tried to shed some light on the situation. He reported that the decision to put the title back on Charlotte was not made until the day of the show.

The original plans for this week were for Mandy Rose, Carmella, Naomi and Sonya Deville to have a match to see who would face Asuka at WrestleMania. However, Vince McMahon scrapped these plans on the day of the show and did not want to have Asuka face the winner of that match, since nobody would care about it anyway.

Furthermore, the idea of Charlotte going into Wrestlemania with a title has been talked about for a while, but the trigger was pulled last night.

WWE has announced that the title will not be defended as a part of the Triple Threat match for the Raw Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 35.

Here’s how Charlotte reacted to winning the title:

Editor’s Opinion:

I have to admit that this one still baffles me a little bit. Don’t get me wrong, The Queen is still my favorite female on the WWE roster, but what are they going to do with the rest of the women at Wrestlemania? Does this diminish all of their hard work and put all of the eggs into one basket?
