Any plans for “The Icon” Sting to compete at this year’s WWE “SummerSlam” are now apparently off.

Original reports had Sting wrestling in a tag team bout during the pay-per-view, aligning with Roman Reigns against the tandem of Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt. Dean Ambrose was also expected to be involved, but that depended heavily on The Wyatt Family getting a new member to replace an injured Erick Rowan.

PWInsider.com is now reporting that as of Tuesday afternoon, World Wrestling Entertainment is not planning on Sting being a part of the card.

The belief backstage amongst WWE talent is that Sting will in fact compete, possibly teaming with Stephen Amell (The Green Arrow) against the duo of Stardust and The Miz, with Sting being a vigilante just like Amell’s on-screen character.

Others believe The Wyatt Family bout will still come to fruition, although it’s merely speculation as Sting more than likely won’t be at Barclays Center for the show.

Editor’s Note

Boo! I got my hopes up and everything. Look, at this point in the build-up to the pay-per-view, it probably wouldn’t make a lot of sense to throw Sting right in the middle of a random feud, as he’ll outshine everyone involved. Does “SummerSlam” need Sting to be successful? Of course not. It still blows, though.
