Paige Becomes New WWE Divas Champion on Monday Night RAW

NXT Women’s Champion Paige made her main roster debut on the April 7 edition of “Monday Night RAW,” shocking the world by defeating AJ Lee to become Divas Champion in her very first match.

Paige came down to the ring to congratulate Lee on successfully retaining her championship at WrestleMania XXX in the Vickie Guerrero Divas Championship Invitational. Lee was not happy with being interrupted, so she challenged the 21-year-old upstart to a match right then and there. She was even willing to put her belt on the line.

After locking in the Black Widow on her adversary, Lee found herself on the receiving end of a Paige Turner, thus ending her 295-day reign on top of the division.

With the win, Paige becomes the first Diva in history to hold the NXT Women’s and WWE Divas Championships at the same time. She’s also the youngest Divas champion in company history.

After basically steamrolling through the entire division at WrestleMania XXX, AJ Lee was running short on challengers. As the Anti-Diva, Paige is the perfect foe for Lee. They’re both cut from the same cloth. The interactions between the two over the next several weeks (and hopefully months) should instil some much-needed energy into a division that’s been longing for something different.
