We may be on the verge of getting one of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling confirmed for an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

According to a report by TMZ.com, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage could be announced as the latest WWE Hall of Fame entrant as soon as the Jan. 12 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”

Per the report:

“Oooooh yeaaah … “Macho Man” Randy Savage is FINALLY going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame … TMZ Sports has learned.”

“Sources tell us … the WWE is expected to make the official announcement on “Raw” tonight.”

“It’s unclear why the WWE has waited so long to enshrine Savage, who passed away in 2011 — especially since he’s one of the most famous wrestlers of all time.”

“In fact, Stone Cold Steve Austin even confronted Vince McMahon about it last month — with Vince promising Savage would be inducted in the near future.”

“Now, McMahon is proving he’s a man of his word — we’re told the official induction ceremony will go down in Santa Clara, CA the day before WrestleMania 31.”

“The cream rises to the top.”

Savage is a two-time WWE Champion and four-time WCW Champion. His match with Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat at WrestleMania 3 is highly-regarded as one of the greatest bouts of all-time.

Update: WWE’s Twitter account has confirmed the news that Savage will be the first inductee into the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame class.

Per WWE.com:

“It’s not official yet, but it is expected that “Macho Man” Randy Savage will be announced tonight on Raw as the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015, WWE.com has learned.”

“One of the most colorful characters and most popular Superstars in WWE history, fans worldwide have been clamoring for Savage’s induction since the hallowed Hall opened its doors. Even WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin broached the topic in his must-see live podcast on WWE Network with Mr. McMahon just weeks ago. The WWE Chairman said that Savage would “definitely” take his place in the Hall of Fame, though he did not indicate when.”

“A former two-time WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion and WCW Champion, the late “Macho Man” also took part in what is considered one of the greatest matches in sports-entertainment history when he battled Ricky “The Dragon Steamboat at WrestleMania III.”

“The 2015 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place on Saturday March 28, the night before WrestleMania 31, at San Jose’s SAP Center. Tickets for the event go on sale this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.”

“Will “Macho Man” Randy Savage take his rightful place in history and be enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame? Tune into Monday Night Raw, live tonight at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network, to find out — plus, be sure to watch WWE Network throughout the day for updates on this major announcement!”
