The Royal Rumble match provides a great opportunity for WWE to reshape the look of their title scene. Winning the Royal Rumble is huge for whichever wrestler manages to be the last man standing. It’s on par with winning the Money in the Bank match in terms of giving a wrestler a boost. If you win the Royal Rumble, you will probably be winning a title soon, either the World Heavyweight Championship or the Universal Championship, depending on which brand you are part of. You can give a wrestler instant credibility, and put them right at the head of the title chase. So which current WWE wrestler would benefit from winning January’s Royal Rumble the most?

Obviously, there are some wrestlers you can eliminate. Right now, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens are champs. It also doesn’t make sense for somebody like Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns or John Cena to win, because they are already established main eventers. Besides, Reigns and Cena have title matches at Royal Rumble already. The only two people we know in the match are Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, but neither is going to win. They have their own thing going on, and are part-timers you probably don’t want to give the belt to.

Dolph Ziggler recently fought Styles for the World Heavyweight title, but it would seem like a waste to give Ziggler a Royal Rumble win. The same goes for Chris Jericho, but only because he’s a veteran who doesn’t really need a boost, and also he doesn’t feel like he makes sense in the title seen. If Finn Balor were ready to return from injury, it would make sense for him to win, because it would get him right back into the title scene. Honestly, somebody from Smackdown should probably win. Their title scene could really use a kickstart. Only Cena has any charge to him, and he’s a part-timer who also isn’t going to win the Royal Rumble. They gave Baron Corbin a win in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in his debut, and if they gave him the Royal Rumble it would definitely kick him up a notch. It might not go over super well, though. Is Corbin ready?

There’s also the outside possibility of somebody making their debut in the Rumble and winning. There are only two guys who could possibly do that; Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura. It would seem more likely that it would be Samoa Joe, since Nakamura is currently NXT Champion, but either would work. Fans would get up for that, and if, say, Samoa Joe debuted in the Rumble match and won, it would immediately put him over. WWE isn’t afraid of this sort of thing, either. Think of how quickly they made Balor the Universal Champion.

That’s all rampant speculation, of course, but if you are looking for a wrestler who would really benefit both themselves and the WWE by winning the Royal Rumble, look to Samoa Joe.
