It appears the WWE is slowly pushing Chris Jericho toward a face turn. It has been bubbling under the surface, seemingly inching closer to reality with each altercation with his “best friend” Kevin Owens. The fans, certainly, are into him, as they’ve been cheering for him throughout the past few months, despite his being a heel. Sure, they can’t turn him face yet, because he still has to face arguably their top face, Seth Rollins, at Roadblock. After that, though, the coast would be clear. Jericho could be a face. Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen, because it’s a bad idea.

Jericho has been wrestling for decades. He literally made his WCW debut 20 years ago in 1996. We’ve seen Jericho in action for years, and one thing is clear; Jericho works better as a heel. In fact, Jericho is one of the very best comedic heel performers of all-time. The man is the king of the pompous heels. When he gets to be arrogant and condescending and cocky, he’s quite funny, and fitfully hilarious. Back in his WCW days, he was just about the funniest guy working. He’s clearly still got it, with his “stupid idiot” insults and the renowned “List of Jericho.”

The fans love it, but what they love is the trappings of heel Jericho. If he becomes a face, everything is different. The dynamics change. There aren’t any pompous buffoon faces. Jericho has been a face before, and it just doesn’t work as well. Granted, that’s partially because his biggest run as a face came in Attitude Era WWE, where being a comedic face meant calling male heels gay and female heels sluts. Nevertheless, with the Jericho and Owens relationship seemingly being brought to a close, hopefully they both remain heels, which is where they are at their best. Otherwise, WWE is going to end up making our List.

What’s your take? Should Jericho become a face? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below and make sure to let your voice be heard on our Wrestling Rumors Facebook page.
