In one of the most anticipated Wrestle Kingdom events in the history of the series, the Tokyo Dome special once again delivered seamlessly. For those who were curious to watch the event due to the return of Chris Jericho after a near 20-year absence from the company, the matches leading into, and match after, that bout was certainly enough to keep them glued to the product, or at the very least, the next Wrestle Kingdom event set for January 4, 2019.

The show held a total of nine matches, with the annual New Japan Rumble on the pre-show to lead into the main event. Each match has a compelling story leading up to it, which New Japan are excellent at exhibiting. Five title changes occurred, while three title holders retained.
