Mickie James is one of the most accomplished women’s wrestlers in WWE history, and a shoo-in Hall of Famer. However, despite her legendary status, her recent tenure in WWE has not been so fortunate. In fact, she has not competed in a WWE ring since June of 2019, losing to Carmella due to referee stoppage.

The stoppage was due to Mickie suffering an injury, which was later determined to be her ACL, forcing her to undergo surgery the following month. Her husband, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, reported that the injury was a success.

Although it has been nearly six months since the surgery, and Mickie did not give a date of when she was returning, she was recently spotted at the recent WWE event in Hartford, Connecticut. Also, it appears as if she was walking around, giving a positive indication that a return could be near.

Until then, PWInsider has confirmed that Mickie is still recovering from her ACL injury, and of course, is out of action until she recovers.

Since the latter part of last year, Mickie has been a part of the Main Event commentary team. Although this could be a temporary position for her while she is recovering, similar to Samoa Joe, Mickie has expressed her satisfaction in the role.

Mickie had a blog entry last September regarding her Main Event commentary spot, which Fightful was able to grab some quotes from.

“I was surprised WWE offered me the opportunity but very excited to jump on board. It’s good to be back on the road with the crew and to call matches of Superstars you don’t always get to see on the main broadcasts. As odd as it sounds, because I’ve only been off the road for a couple months, I feel like I’m missing out on so much. This gives me the opportunity to scout the Superstars who are going to be waiting to battle me when I’m healed up.”

Mickie made her WWE return at the NXT TakeOver: Toronto in November of 2016, after over 6.5 years away from the company. Two months later, she was a part of the Royal Rumble kickoff show in a six-woman tag match, but her team lost. Over the course of her most recent tenure, Mickie has been used mostly in a role to put other talent over, with the exception of a late-2017 Raw Women’s Championship feud against Alexa Bliss.
