Former WWE Champion Pulled from WrestleMania Due to Being Quarantined

The Coronavirus pandemic continues to effect to professional wrestling business. In addition to the matches now being taped in an empty arena and aired on both April 4 and 5. At this point, based on the previous episode of Raw, matches are just being thrown together to fill the two-night show up. One of those matches is the Street Profits defending the Raw Tag Team Championships against current United States Champion Andrade, and Angel Garza. This match was created based on no kind of build, and has no backstory.

Prior to this match, Andrade and Garza have been feuding against Rey Mysterio and Humberto Carrillo. However, there is a particular reason why the feud has quickly shifted. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Rey Mysterio is now being quarantined, and not able to attend WrestleMania tapings due to Coronavirus concerns. In addition Dana Brooke is also being quarantined.

Rey Mysterio has been primarily involved in the midcard scene since returning to the WWE full-time in October of 2018. Mysterio also has continued to battle with injuries. In fact, his WrestleMania 35 match against Samoa Joe ended in less than a minute. However, Mysterio was able to defeat Joe the next month at Money in the Bank to win the United States Championship. He was forced to relinquish the title the following month due to injury.

Months later, Mysterio began to feud with Brock Lesnar, which also included his son Dominik. This feud led to a match for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series, which Mysterio was unsuccessful. However, the following night on Raw, Mysterio defeated AJ Styles to become United States Champion once again. He lost the title against Andrade at a WWE live event inside the Madison Square Garden. Mysterio’s last match was against Andrade on the March 16 episode of Raw, and he was able to win the non-title match.
