CM Punk recently addressing his departure from WWE has quickly become one of the biggest stories in professional wrestling in 2014. In an interview with Colt Cabana that extended 90 minutes, Punk’s tell-all story hit on a plethora of topics surrounding his departure. One of the more notable things that Punk revealed was the fact that WWE had fired him on the day of his wedding. Punk was also not shy in expressing disdain for certain WWE stars, stating that Ryback took “20 years off my life.”

In an extensive update to a previous report on the backstage reaction to CM Punk’s interview with Cabana, Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline talked about WWE’s reaction to Punk’s words during his “Figure Four Daily” radio show on Nov. 28.

Despite Punk having his fair share of critics within WWE, almost everyone in the company who listened to it “thought it was awesome,” reported Alvarez.

Alvarez explained:

“Now, if you know CM Punk, CM Punk is a guy who has his lovers—maybe that’s the wrong word—he has his fans, and he has his detractors. There’s a group of people in WWE who are big fans of CM Punk, and there are people in WWE who just can’t stand the guy. When he left, I heard from people that were like, ‘Thank God this guy has left! He drove us crazy. He was so angry.’ When he did his podcast with Colt Cabana, he admitted that at the end, he was actually sorry for how many times he told people to f**k off. When it happened, I had been told from people that he was so miserable, he was such as a crabby individual, they were glad he was finally gone out of the locker room, because they couldn’t handle him anymore.

Now, with that said, the impression that I got was, even people who did not like CM Punk, even people who really thought he was a miserable guy and were not CM Punk’s fans in the slightest, they were fans of a lot of the stuff that he talked about in the podcast.

It is true. There are a lot of guys in the company who are afraid to speak out. They’re afraid to say anything. They’re afraid to approach management. They’re afraid to ask questions, and CM Punk got a lot of that out in the podcast. He opened a lot of people’s eyes that didn’t know anything about what goes on internally in WWE. So there were even people that don’t like CM Punk and don’t want him back in the company, who are happy that he did this podcast, and said everything that he said.”

In regards to Vince McMahon, The Chairman is said to be upset with Punk, but not fuming. With “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and McMahon recording a live edition of “The Steve Austin Show” following the Dec. 1 “Monday Night Raw,” it will certainly be interesting to see if Punk’s name comes up. Though, according to Alvarez, it is highly unlikely that the two will talk in-depth about the matter, if it even happens to come up. If it does, the feeling backstage is that McMahon will dish out a “corporate answer.”

McMahon’s son-in-law, WWE COO Triple H, is the one who is fuming. Punk did not have too many kind words for “The King of Kings” throughout the edition of Colt Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling.” Most notably, Punk revealed that on the day he walked out, he asked Triple H if he had “submitted to a piss test” that WWE desperately wanted Punk to take. After Punk’s inquiry, Triple H remained silent, gritting his teeth.

It would be an understatement to say Triple H is furious with Punk. Alvarez revealed that he received a text from a WWE employee, which read “Triple H wants to kill Punk.” HHH’s wife, Stephanie McMahon, shares her husband’s wretched hatred for Punk. Additionally, Punk is reportedly on their no-call list.

Colt Cabana, who conducted the interview, is also on WWE’s bad side. He has reportedly landed himself on the company’s “sh*tlist.” As recently as last year, Cabana was being pursued for an announcing job, but any chance of him landing a job now is seemingly out the window.

Editor’s Note

Great to see the WWE locker room behind Punk. It says a lot that performers who never really liked that guy are agreeing with his statements. Regarding Triple H and Vince McMahon, I’m looking forward to either of the two possibly making comments about the ordeal on “Raw,” or “The Steve Austin Show” for McMahon.
