WWE Attempting to Book Most Venues in Bay Area for WrestleMania 31 Week

Even though WrestleMania XXX has not occurred, WWE is already planning events for WrestleMania week in 2015. WrestleMania 31 will take place at the brand-new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The stadium will be the new home for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers. In the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, published on March 27, it is revealed that WWE is trying to prevent indie promotions from booking events in the “Bay Area.”

In the newsletter, it is noted that WWE has talked about possibly having NXT live events in the San Jose area during WrestleMania week in 2015. These live events would be an attempt to counter presumable shows occurring outside of Santa Clara County from a variety of indie promotions.

Additionally, WWE has made a strong push to lock up venues in the cities of Santa Clara and San Jose. WWE would like to make it hard for indie promotions to book venues close to the location of WrestleMania 31. However, indie promotions such as Dragon Gate USA and Evolve have been able to get venues locked up for 2015. One promotion that usually runs during WrestleMania week revealed that the closest the promotion has been able to get from Santa Clara is an hour away.

Editor’s Note

In my opinion, I do not think that WWE should worry about independent promotions booking near the location of WrestleMania. Even if some fans attending WrestleMania also attend these events, not much money, if any, will be taken out of WWE’s pockets. WWE is already making a tremendous amount of money during the week, and should be content with these independent shows, as it makes the experience that much better for die-hard professional wrestling fans.
