On the September 9 edition of Monday Night Raw, nine-time WWE Hardcore Champion Dustin Rhodes faced WWE Champion Randy Orton in an attempt to save the career of his younger brother, Cody Rhodes. His return was ignited when Cody had been fired by WWE COO Triple H on the September 2 episode of Monday Night Raw.  Dustin returned as his Goldust persona for the match, who was last seen as a surprise entrant in the 2013 Royal Rumble. Despite doing all he can to avenge his younger brother by hitting the “Cross Rhodes,” WWE Champion Randy Orton was able to obtain the victory.

According to F4WOnline, the backstage reaction to the Orton and Goldust match was extremely positive. From the top company officials, to the other wrestlers in the locker room, the match was well-received. The website is reporting that the locker room went as far to give Rhodes and Orton a standing ovation upon their return to the back.
