On July 11th during the NXT tapings, it was revealed that Alex Riley and Tom Phillips will be the new set of commentators for the show. Phillips had previously been doing some commentary work for NXT, but Riley’s only commentary work was his short stint as a commentator for WWE Superstars. The duo will replace a commentary team that had Phillips along side William Regal, Tony Dawson, and Jim Ross, who would only call the main event.

Tom Phillips also currently works on WWE Bottom Line, a program that recaps Monday Night Raw. Although the show was removed from syndication on USA Network in 2005, it still airs in many international markets. Phillips has been working alongside Renee Young on WWE Bottom Line since November of 2012. On the other hand, Riley has not wrestled on television since he appeared on the April 17th edition of WWE Main Event in order compete in an 11-man battle royal to determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Riley made it to the final four, but was eliminated by Primo.
