In December of 2014, reports surfaced that WWE and Rey Mysterio were close to agreeing on a new deal, following a number of contractual and legal issues. However, about 10 days after the initial reports, it was revealed that Mysterio’s return, which would be in time for WrestleMania 31, was in doubt for an unknown reason.

Chavo Guerrero, who currently works for AAA on its “Lucha Underground” television series, made a stir on Twitter in regards to Mysterio’s status with WWE. A fan noted that he would like to see Mysterio and Chavo feud once again, this time in AAA on “Lucha Underground.”

Chavo responded to the tweet, simply saying “soon:”

Chavo’s tweet has led to speculation that Mysterio and WWE are working on a deal to mutually cut ties with each other. In the days before Chavo’s remarks, there were numerous unconfirmed reports and rumors that WWE would grant Mysterio his release from the company. The release is rumored to come at some point prior to WrestleMania 31 on March 29.

Editor’s Note

I wonder what happened that made Mysterio’s return to WWE in 2015 fall through. With Mysterio being linked to AAA on numerous occasions, I definitely see him joining the promotion as soon as he cuts ties with WWE.
