AJ Styles is scheduled to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin on next week’s SmackDown show, but what’ll be next for The Phenomenal One following the blue brand’s final show of 2016?

Well, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter answered that question on Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

During the Q&A segment of the show, Meltzer was asked who AJ Styles would defend his title against at the 2017 Royal Rumble, and his answer — which will probably disappoint some people — was John Cena.

Of course, Forbes originally published the rumor that Styles would defend his title against The Undertaker at the Alamodome, which is a match that WWE fans are dying to see. But, unless Meltzer is mistaken, that match won’t happen on January 29.

John Cena is scheduled to return on next week’s SmackDown show, but before he does, he’ll appear at a WWE live event on December 26, where he’ll be in a triple threat WWE title match with Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles.
