Back in 2010, TNA relived the Montreal Screwjob with AJ Styles and Kurt Angle. In the segment, Styles defeated Angle via submission after Earl Hebner — who was also the referee for Bret vs. Shawn at Survivor Series ’97 — rang the bell. Problem was, Angle didn’t tap.

Following the bell, Hulk Hogan, who was an authority figure on television for TNA at the time, was standing at ringside, as he was playing the role of Vince McMahon. Angle spit in Hogan’s face, told him “I’ll go back to WWE!” and then proceeded to destroy all equipment in sight, just like Bret Hart did.

On Friday’s Talk is Jericho, Angle talked about the Montreal spoof, and he completely buried it. Shocking, right?

“[TNA] wanted to compete with Raw, and it was like, ‘oh my god, we are not going live on Monday nights!’ AJ [Styles] and I wrestled in the main event [of the first live Monday show], and we did the whole Bret Hart — I had to spit on Hogan’s face, and you know the whole thing with Vince McMahon, we’re doing a spoof of it. I was like ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this right now.’ So we took a chance and it backfired.”
