WWE has already started the build towards John Cena vs. Roman Reigns, which probably means that the long-rumored match won’t happen at WrestleMania 34 next spring. In fact, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the new main event plan for the show is the same as the old main event plan, as the current plan is for Brock Lesnar to defend the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34.

On Monday’s post-Raw edition Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the original plan for SummerSlam was Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns, but when the match got changed to a four way, the Reigns vs. Lesnar singles match got pushed back until next year. Of course, we’re still a little under eight months away from next year’s WrestleMania, so the plan could change between now and then.

John Cena returns to Raw for a confrontation with Roman Reigns: Raw, Aug. 21, 2017

“It is still [Lesnar vs. Reigns] at WrestleMania. Well, it’s not still because it was actually not gonna be, it was gonna be Lesnar and Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, and then when they switched it to the four way it went back to Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, so it’s back again. I mean, it could change again, but that is the plan right now.”
